Chelsea are targeting a move to sign a midfield talent in January that they would send immediately to sister club Strasbourg in France.
The transfer strategy in recent years under this Chelsea ownership has led to them investing in so many talented youngsters from all over the world. As a result, many of them are developing out on loan because there’s not room in the Blues squad at the same time.
It’s no real surprise that Chelsea-owned stars Djordje Petrovic, Caleb Wiley and Andrey Santos are all currently playing this season during a loan spell with Strasbourg. Incidentally, Chelsea’s Santos is playing so well he’s attracting interest from Bayern Munich.
FIFA regulations state that a maximum of three players are allowed to be loaned to the same side during a campaign. Therefore, the Blues would need to recall one of the aforementioned trio if they wanted to send anyone else to Strasbourg.

Chelsea want to sign Saint-Etienne youngster Mathis Amougou
According to RMC Sport, Chelsea are interested in signing Mathis Amougou from French Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne.
It is understood that the Blues are prepared to pay €15m (£13m) to buy the 19-year-old midfielder in January.
Apparently, Chelsea will immediately send the French teenager to Strasbourg if they sign him in this mid-season window.
Chelsea are also looking at Hellas Verona midfielder Reda Belahyane, so it looks like they’re eyeing more recruitments in the centre of the park.

Who is Mathis Amougou?
Amougou, who only turned 19 earlier this month, is an exciting talent playing in the French top division. He’s an important player for a Saint-Etienne side sitting 16th in the Ligue 1 table right now. As for league rivals Strasbourg, they’re currently above them in 10th spot.
Here is a look at Amougou’s league statistics so far this season:
Appearances (Starts) | Pass accuracy | Chances created | Dribbled past | Duels won % | Tackles won % | Yellow cards | Average rating |
16 (8) | 79.6% | 7 | 7 | 44.3% | 72.2% | 2 | 6.38 |
Yet again, Amougou is a Chelsea target who appears to be very much one for the future. We doubt we’ll see the central midfielder breaking into the Blues first-team squad anytime soon.
