Chris Sutton and Peter Crouch have both made their pre-match prediction ahead of Brighton versus Chelsea this weekend in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Chelsea travel to the Amex Stadium on Saturday night to face Brighton in the FA Cup.
The Blues breezed past League Two side Morecambe with a 5-0 win in the previous round, but now they’re running into Premier League opposition. Incidentally, Brighton will host Chelsea again just six days later in a league fixture.
Head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed that Marc Guiu is unavailable during the Chelsea injury news for Brighton after picking up a bad problem.
It’ll be interesting to see how strong the Blues manager goes with his team selection tomorrow night. New signing Mathis Amougou is already training with Chelsea’s squad, so could he be a surprise selection?

Chris Sutton and Peter Crouch predict Brighton vs Chelsea in the FA Cup
Chris Sutton fancies Chelsea to narrowly win away at Brighton this weekend to progress to the next round of the cup.
Sutton told BBC Sport: “This is not an easy tie to call. Brighton need to bounce back from losing 7-0 to Nottingham Forest, while Chelsea have been very up and down in recent weeks…
“I think this game will be tight – I certainly don’t see Brighton capitulating the way they did at Forest, but the key thing for them is Yasin Ayari and Carlos Baleba being fit to return in midfield.
“Even if they both return, I still feel like Chelsea will find a way of winning the tie. It may go all the way to penalties but I am going to say Enzo Maresca’s side will win it in extra time.
“Sutton’s prediction: 1-2 after extra time.”
Meanwhile, Peter Crouch agrees that Chelsea will be too much for Brighton in the cup tie, tipping a 3-1 scoreline to the visitors.
Crouch said on his YouTube channel: “I think they (Brighton) will go strong. But I still think Chelsea’s second string, we’ve seen them a lot in the Conference League this season, is strong. I think Chelsea win this 3-1.”

Chelsea and Brighton head to head
Interestingly, Chelsea’s record against the Seagulls more recently has been a successful one.
Back in September, the Blues beat Brighton 4-2 at Stamford Bridge in the league meeting, with Cole Palmer stealing the headlines because he scored four times. Alan Shearer described Palmer as “special” after his four-goal heroics.
Here is a look at the most recent five meetings between Chelsea and Brighton:
Date | Competition | Result |
28 September 2024 | Premier League | Chelsea 4-2 Brighton |
15 May 2024 | Premier League | Brighton 1-2 Chelsea |
3 December 2023 | Premier League | Chelsea 3-2 Brighton |
27 September 2023 | League Cup | Chelsea 1-0 Brighton |
15 April 2023 | Premier League | Chelsea 1-2 Brighton |
This fixture has had some added spice in recent years because of the transfer business between the two clubs, so Chelsea may need to deal with an intense atmosphere away from home on Saturday evening.
