Chrisantus Uche signed off the 2024/25 La Liga season with an assist in Getafe’s 2-1 home defeat to Celta Vigo on Saturday.

The 22-year-old  midfielder set up Borja Mayoral for Getafe’s only goal of the match, bringing his tally to four goals and six assists in 33 league appearances this season.

Coming into the fixture, Uche had played a decisive role in Getafe’s 2-1 win over Mallorca last weekend, scoring the winner to snap a six-game losing streak.

However, they were unable to carry that momentum into the final matchday, falling short against a resilient Celta Vigo side at the Coliseum.

Uche was instrumental early on, pouncing on a misplaced pass from Celta goalkeeper Vicente Guaita in the 11th minute.

He quickly fed Mayoral at the edge of the box, and the striker turned neatly before firing home to give Getafe an early lead.

Celta Vigo responded with determination. Borja Iglesias levelled the scoreline in the 25th minute, capitalizing on a lapse in concentration from the Getafe backline.

The visitors eventually secured all three points when veteran forward Iago Aspas found the net in the 80th minute.

Uche, who started the match, was substituted in the 84th minute after a largely quiet second half.

While he didn’t have a major impact beyond his assist, his early contribution showed glimpses of his creativity and awareness in midfield.

With the result, Getafe concluded their La Liga campaign in 13th place, finishing with 42 points from 38 matches.

Next on Uche’s agenda is a potential international debut with Nigeria where he was named in the squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London, as well as the friendly match against Russia.
