Former Super Eagles midfielder, Duke Udi has extended his congratulations to the Flying Eagles following their qualification for the quarter-final stage of the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
The Flying Eagles secured a hard fought point in their final Group B match against Kenya in Cairo — a result that ensured their progression to the knockout rounds.
The game also marked a significant milestone for Nigeria, as it was their 100th appearance inU20 AFCON history.
Speaking to Brila.net in the aftermath of the encounter, Udi praised the team’s resilience and urged Nigerians to continue supporting the players as they aim for World Cup qualification.
“Congratulations to the Flying Eagles and the technical crew. They have gone well. They are still on course for automatic World Cup qualification,” Udi said.
“What would have happened if we lost? Qualifying for the quarterfinal is enough. We need to boost the players, encourage them, and support them. I wish them all the best and hope they qualify for the World Cup.”
The match against Kenya was a tense affair, with the East Africans twice taking the lead before Nigeria clawed back on both occasions.
Nigeria wrapped up the group stage in second place with five points, having recorded a win and a draw in their previous two matches.
Morocco secured top spot in Group B with seven points after a 3 1 victory over Tunisia in the group’s other final match.
The Flying Eagles will next face Senegal in the last eight. A victory in the next round and Nigeria secures one of the four available African slots at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup.
Nigeria remains one of the most successful teams in U20 AFCON history and will be looking to add an eighth title to their illustrious record as the tournament progresses.
