Chelsea were suffering badly with midfield injuries when they were last in action in the Premier League against Wolves on Monday.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was handed a first start in the league for the Blues, with Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia missing from the squad.
There was no midfielder named on the bench, and Moises Caicedo looked to be in real pain after a challenge in the first half, however he was able to continue.
Enzo Maresca stated that Fernandez could return to the squad to face Manchester City, however Lavia will be missing again for a prolonged period of time.

Enzo Maresca says Chelsea have no plans on recalling Andrey Santos or Lesley Ugochukwu
There have been calls from many for the Blues to bring in a new midfielder, with one option being recalling either Andrey Santos or Lesley Ugochukwu from their loan moves away.
Both are currently making an impact for Strasbourg and Southampton respectively, and Chelsea will be wary of not limiting their development by having them sit on the bench at Stamford Bridge.
Maresca has stated there are currently no intentions to bring either back, as well as signing a new midfielder completely.
He said in his pre-match press conference: “No, we have in this moment, enough players to cover that situation with Moi, Enzo and Kiernan. The intention is not to go for one more midfielder.”
Santos is amongst the best midfielders in Ligue 1 this season, and while Ugochukwu was struggling for minutes under the former manager, he is playing a far more important role since they changed head coaches.

Could Chelsea make any signings in January?
Reports that Chelsea are looking to bring in a new centre-back have cooled off after bringing Trevoh Chalobah back from his loan at Crystal Palace.
The Blues are reportedly interested in adding some more firepower to their squad. They are seen by many as the favourites to sign Liam Delap.
However, Ipswich are desperate to keep hold of their talisman as they look to maintain their place in the Premier League, with that deal looking more likely to be completed in the summer.
