Former Nigerian defender Eric Ejiofor has sharply criticized the Super Eagles for their poor form in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers, calling for urgent changes in both planning and mentality.
In an interview with Brila FM, Ejiofor, who earned 14 caps for Nigeria during his playing career, expressed frustration over the team’s struggles, attributing their underperformance to a lack of proper planning and management.
“Our problem is that we fail to plan, and that is why we are in this mess,” Ejiofor remarked. “Football has changed, and every other African nation is pushing to qualify for the World Cup. We play as if we don’t fully grasp the importance of being at the World Cup.”
With Nigeria sitting in 4th place in Group C, 6 points behind leaders South Africa, Ejiofor emphasized the need for commitment and determination. “We need to come together as a team and approach each game with seriousness. The focus must be on winning, not on trying to play beautiful football,” he urged.
As the Super Eagles head into the final stretch of their qualifiers, the pressure is mounting on both the players and coaching staff to turn things around. With only four games remaining, Nigeria faces a crucial battle to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
