Nicolas Jackson has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons after the Chelsea striker’s moment of madness against Newcastle United.
Chelsea suffered a 2-0 away defeat against Newcastle in the Premier League, which dented their push for Champions League qualification.
Thankfully, the Blues still have their destiny in their own hands going into the final two league matches of the season against Manchester United (home) and Nottingham Forest (away).
Nicolas Jackson, 23, has received some strong criticism for what happened on Sunday. In the first half against Newcastle, the Chelsea forward was shown a straight red card after a VAR check for an elbow on Sven Botman.
Blues head coach Enzo Maresca didn’t look at Nicolas Jackson as he left the field at St James’ Park after his red card.
The most crushing takeaway from the incident is that Jackson misses the rest of the league season, and there’s not much in reserve to replace him as the starting centre-forward.
The Chelsea hierarchy are backing Nicolas Jackson
According to The Sun, Chelsea are standing behind Jackson despite his costly red card against Newcastle.
It is explained that the Blues will stick by the 23-year-old frontman because they accept it comes with the territory.
Apparently, the ‘top brass’ at Stamford Bridge believe Jackson is still learning the art of self-discipline and expect him to mature in time. Even though he massively slipped up against Newcastle, the case is closed in their eyes.
The report adds that it was business as usual on Monday when Jackson arrived at the training ground. He did not feel the need to apologise and the management have not asked for an apology.
Jason Cundy couldn’t defend Nicolas Jackson’s red card in such a massive fixture, but it’s time to draw a line in the sand on it because attention turns towards the showdown with Man Utd.
What Chelsea planned for Nicolas Jackson last summer when Victor Osimhen was linked
Napoli-owned striker Victor Osimhen, 26, is someone frequently linked with a potential move to Stamford Bridge over the years.
It’s been claimed that Victor Osimhen wants to join Chelsea this summer, but they’ll need to find an agreement over wages.
If he joins, we expect the clinical goalscorer to be an automatic starter for the Blues. Incidentally, he’s netted 33 times in 38 matches this season during his loan spell at Galatasaray.
Where would that leave Jackson’s Chelsea career, though?
Back in August 2024, it was reported that Chelsea planned to use Nicolas Jackson on the left wing when they were eyeing a move for Osimhen. It would be interesting to know if they’ve got a similar thought process nearly a year later.
