Ian Wright thinks Chelsea need to make a signing this summer who’s just like a player they let go on a free transfer.
It’s going to be fascinating to see how Chelsea attack the summer transfer window, which will be split into two sections because of the Club World cup tournament.
Alan Shearer’s assessment of Chelsea’s squad earlier in the season is that they still need to sign a new goalkeeper, centre-half and striker.
The Blues’ campaign is currently hanging in the balance as they fight for Champions League qualification and the Conference League trophy, so it looks like they still need to do more work on the squad to kick on to another level.

Ian Wright suggests Chelsea need a signing like Thiago Silva
Former Premier League star Ian Wright has explained that Chelsea need a summer signing in the same mould as Thiago Silva.
Speaking on The Kelly & Wrighty Show, he said: “Remember they signed Thiago Silva a few years ago, they need experience… I think the midfield and defence, they do need an experienced player to let them know what’s going on on the pitch and calm them down.”
Silva, who spent four years at Chelsea between 2020 and 2024, left them last summer on a free transfer when his contract expired. Remarkably, The veteran 40-year-old defender is still playing in his native Brazil with Fluminense.

Even though he joined the Blues in the latter stages of his career, he was still a major influence on and off the pitch at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking in 2024, Noni Madueke called Thiago Silva a “role model” for his impact on him at Chelsea.
Shaun Wright-Phillips claims Chelsea should’ve kept Thiago Silva and convinced him to stay another year, but the experienced centre-half called time on his spell in West London.

Jonathan Tah could tick a lot of boxes for Chelsea
There are a number of different centre-halves linked with Chelsea in the transfer rumour mill. Unsurprisingly, plenty of them are exciting youngsters with huge potential.
Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, 29, is a transfer target that could be a good profile for the Blues, though.
It’s been claimed that Chelsea have discussed Jonathan Tah as the German centre-back prepares to leave Leverkusen on a free transfer at the end of the season.
On paper, the 29-year-old central defender could be a great fit at Stamford Bridge. Without a doubt, he would bring the type of experience and know-how that the younger players in the group would learn a lot from.
Tah is one game short of 400 appearances for Leverkusen, plus he’s got 35 senior international caps for Germany.
