Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong may already possess all the tools to enjoy a long and successful career at Stamford Bridge.
Josh Acheampong officially made the step up from the Chelsea academy to the Blues first team last month, so he’s now training and playing alongside the senior stars on a daily basis.
The 18-year-old defender recently committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract. Also, he’s taken giant strides forward recently by starting in back-to-back Premier League matches.
Chelsea think Acheampong is a ‘world-class prospect’ who’s very highly rated by people inside the club.
Josh Acheampong names four Chelsea players who massively help him
Acheampong has opened up on what it’s been like making the transition from the Under-21s to the main group.
Apparently, Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marcus Bettinelli, and Levi Colwill massively support the Chelsea youngster. It’s perhaps no coincidence that they’re four of the more senior figures inside the dressing room.
“Now that I have this opportunity, I’m working hard every day. The older players remind me why I’m here and push me to stay focused. If I don’t do something, they’re on me straight away,” Acheampong told Chelsea’s official website.
“Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marcus Bettinelli, and Levi Colwill – they’re all really encouraging and help out a lot.”
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is coaching a squad with the youngest average age in the Premier League, and that’s only going down with the introduction of more talented academy players. Therefore, it’s so vital that there is still a core group of senior figures helping to nurture the young stars.
Tosin previously said Chelsea’s Acheampong has “everything” to be a top defender, so it’s going to be exciting to see how he develops in 2025.
Levi Colwill is growing in stature
There’s no doubt that Blues centre-back Colwill, 21, is growing in stature at the football club.
Even though Colwill is still only a youngster himself, he’s now the first name you can rely on in the back four. The Chelsea academy graduate is starting to really impose himself on and off the pitch, fulfilling the potential that many people knew he had several years ago.
Maresca says Colwill could be a future Chelsea captain because he’s showing more and more leadership as the season progresses.
James is the club captain and it’s great to see him back on the pitch, scoring a late equaliser in the midweek draw versus Bournemouth. However, Colwill should be under serious consideration to become the permanent skipper because he’s so reliable.
