Chelsea have identified Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel as a transfer target as they look to strengthen their attack this month.
While Mathys Tel could be leaving Bayern Munich for Chelsea, Christopher Nkunku could be about to do the opposite.
According to reports, Nkunku has already agreed to join Bayern after struggling for starts this season.
As for Tel, the 19-year-old is a very versatile forward, able to play up front and on both wings. Last term, he spoke about which flank he feels most comfortable on.

Mathys Tel could play on the left at Chelsea
If Tel does go on to join Chelsea this month, it would not be a surprise if he told Enzo Maresca that he wants to play on the left.
During the 2023/24 campaign, Tel was asked by the Bundesliga’s official website whether it was difficult to play on the right and in response he said: “Not difficult, but I would say I’m more comfortable on the left compared to the right. I’m right footed, so it’s harder for me to cut inside from the right.”
Jadon Sancho and Mykhailo Mudryk are the two main options for the left wing at Chelsea. But with the latter suspended, Tel could be exactly what they need.
Tyrique George tore Morecambe apart from the same position last weekend, so he is also an option for Maresca.

Mathys Tel’s relationship with Thomas Tuchel
Despite not being a starter under Thomas Tuchel, Tel still appeared to have a good relationship with the former Chelsea manager when he was still at Bayern.
On Tuchel, who is now coaching England, he told the Bundesliga’s website: “He’s very precise as a coach. He really pays close attention to the details, both in an attacking and defensive sense.
“He’s very precise in how we run and how we move. This is a style of coaching that I really like because the details are extremely important. You can’t underestimate the details. He is a top, top coach, and I have learned a lot from him.”
Like Tuchel, there now seems to be a possibility of Tel representing Chelsea. The Blues may have some convincing to do, though, in their bid to bring the Frenchman to west London.
In theory, Tel could just be swapping Bayern’s bench for Chelsea’s, given the attacking options that Maresca currently has available to him. That could easily put the France U21 international off and prevent him from joining Maresca’s side this month.
