A couple of Barcelona players look to have caught Chelsea’s attention this month as the Blues try to strengthen their squad.
When it comes to defence, Chelsea have been linked with Ronald Araujo. It comes after injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.
Further forward, it has also been claimed that Chelsea have an interest in Dani Olmo.
Due to financial issues, Barcelona have had trouble registering Olmo for the second half of the season. However, they have been granted temporary permission to play him by the Spanish national sports council.
Dani Olmo set to stay at Barcelona
Amid the ongoing issue surrounding his registration, it was reported at the end of December that Chelsea enquired about signing Olmo.
It is understandable, as the attacking midfielder is obviously a quality player. “Dani Olmo is an outstanding footballer,” RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose was quoted as saying by the Bundesliga’s official website.
Unfortunately for the Blues, though, it does not look like Olmo will be moving to Stamford Bridge this month.
In Barcelona’s 5-2 win against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday, Olmo was seen kissing the club’s badge and pointing to the ground to indicate that he is not going anywhere.
It means Chelsea will have to turn elsewhere if they want to sign another attacker before the transfer window closes.
Dani Olmo stance good news for Joao Felix
Olmo’s desire to remain at Barcelona instead of joining Chelsea is great news for someone like Joao Felix.
Felix is already struggling to break into Enzo Maresca‘s team, making just three starts in the Premier League this season.
The addition of Olmo, who can play as a No.10 and on the left, would not have been a positive development for Felix.
The Portugal international is having to compete against Cole Palmer for a spot in Chelsea’s starting XI, which is proving to be an impossible task. But after his two-goal display against Morecambe over the weekend, he could be in line for some minutes in the Premier League on Tuesday.
