Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho is a surprise name linked with Chelsea in this month’s transfer window.
Even though the Chelsea squad already includes several talented wide players, there’s plenty of rumours naming Man Utd attacker Alejandro Garnacho as a Blues target.
Chelsea are ‘likely’ to submit a bid for Garnacho as they look to sign him in January, but it’ll take more than £50m to prize him away from Old Trafford.
Interestingly, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca suggested this week that his side won’t be trying to bring in Garnacho this month. Maresca claimed that Chelsea don’t need more wingers because they’ve already got enough talent in the group.
In terms of wide players, the Blues can pick from the likes of Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke and youngster Tyrique George right now.

Paul Merson reacts to Alejandro Garnacho links to Chelsea
Paul Merson has reacted to the Garnacho speculation by suggesting that it would be a bad signing for Chelsea. He’s confused about where the Man Utd left-winger would fit into the Blues XI.
According to Merson, Garnacho wouldn’t get into the starting line-up ahead of Sancho at Chelsea.
When discussing the Garnacho to Chelsea links, Merson told Sky Sports: “I don’t get the Garnacho one. He’s not better than Sancho, no way near. He’s not better than Neto. Him and Madueke will have their days where they look really good, but they won’t be consistent enough. I don’t see where he plays.”
Interestingly, Garnacho rumours to Chelsea are ongoing at a time when Man Utd are linked with Blues attacker Christopher Nkunku.
Man Utd and Chelsea are even considering a Nkunku-Garnacho swap deal as discussions between the Premier League giants continue.

Would Alejandro Garnacho start over Jadon Sancho?
If Chelsea do bring Garnacho to West London before the close of the January window, the player himself will surely come with the expectation to play plenty of football. It might not be that straightforward, though.
Sancho, 24, is predominately the first-choice left-winger for the Blues this season, although George is an exciting understudy. Incidentally, Chelsea prospect George should be fuming if they sign Garnacho as it would surely block his path even further.
Sancho and Garnacho were previously teammates together in Manchester, so could they soon be competing for the same starting position at Stamford Bridge.
Player | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Alejandro Garnacho | 33 | 8 | 5 |
Jadon Sancho | 18 | 2 | 6 |
We’d expect plenty of rotation between Sancho and Garnacho at Chelsea. However, we do agree agree that the potential signing would be a bit unnecessary because of the current squad options.
