Chelsea’s transfer business in January has so far been highlighted by recalling one of their players who had spent the season on loan away from the club.
Trevoh Chalobah is now back at Stamford Bridge after featuring for Crystal Palace during this campaign, and could be back in the Chelsea side as soon as tonight against Wolves.
Reports have continued to link the Blues with some more new additions this month, however these could well come in the form of other players who are currently out on loan.
Southampton worried Chelsea will recall Lesley Ugochukwu from his loan
The star in that category this season has been Andrey Santos, who continues to be one of the starring players at Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
There has also been a redemption in the form of Lesley Ugochukwu as of late, with him looking a completely different player as a result of the manager change at Southampton.
It looks as if it is just a matter of time before the Saints are relegated, and keeping him there could be seen as a waste of the rest of the season as far as his development goes.
Southampton have recalled their own loanee in the form of Shea Charles, and according to The Star this is because they are fearful that the Blues could be about to bring Ugochukwu back to West London.
Should Chelsea recall Lesley Ugochukwu?
The Blues have put a lot of faith in Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in the middle of the park.
However, the latter has again struggled to maintain his fitness this season. Lavia is a doubt for tonight’s game against Wolves.
Cover will certainly be required in the midfield if this remains the case, and it would be far easier to bring back a loanee.
Reports that the Blues are interested in Kobbie Mainoo cropped up earlier this month, however even if that was a priority it would be very difficult to complete in January.
