Not too long ago, he was just a two-sport athlete in high school, trying to decide between football and basketball. He was a star in basketball but didn’t get many offers. Football wasn’t much different, with only a few schools showing interest. But then Duke’s coach saw his potential and offered him a chance.
Leonard trained hard, and his skills improved over time. He’s known for his competitiveness and toughness, which have helped him overcome challenges. After a solid freshman year at Duke, he had a breakout season in 2022, but injuries cut his 2023 season short.
When Duke’s coach left, Leonard entered the transfer portal. He quickly chose Notre Dame, a school he admired since childhood. He felt a strong connection to the program, especially since his great-grandfather played there.
This season started rocky for Notre Dame, but they bounced back, winning 13 straight games. Leonard has been a key player, throwing for over 2,600 yards and rushing for 866 yards. His teammates respect him for his toughness, especially after he played through injuries in crucial games.
Now, as they prepare to face Ohio State, Leonard knows the stakes are high. He’s ready to lead his team and make his hometown proud. No matter the outcome, he’s grateful for the support from Fairhope and excited for what’s next in his career.
