Chelsea look willing to let Renato Veiga go in this transfer window as the defender continues to attract interest from multiple clubs.
However, it seems that Chelsea are only going to do a deal on their terms, with the Blues under no pressure to sell a player who signed a seven-year contract only six months ago.
Borussia Dortmund are one club who are keen on Renato Veiga. In fact, it has been claimed that Dortmund already have an agreement with Veiga over a transfer.
If true, the German side now just need to strike a deal with Chelsea. But again, the Blues want to do business their way.
Chelsea want sell-on clause to be included in Renato Veiga deal
If Chelsea do go on to sell Veiga this winter, it looks like they want to make a profit. It also appears that they want a chunk of the fee Veiga’s next club receive should they decide to sell him in the future.
According to The Athletic, the Blues have slapped a £29m price tag on the 21-year-old and will request for a sell-on clause to be included in any deal that would see him depart during the current transfer window.
Chelsea signed Veiga from Basel for £12m, meaning that they could sell the Portuguese for more than double of what they paid for him.
Chelsea are happy with Veiga’s development, but it is quite clear that that will not prevent an exit from happening this month.
Sell-on clause a clever move
Veiga is still just 21 years of age and is already a Portugal international. The former Basel man has played in the Premier League and Bundesliga and is a very versatile footballer.
Simply put, everything is pointing towards Veiga developing into a top player, meaning that he could be sold again in the future for big money.
With that in mind, Chelsea trying to include a sell-on clause in Veiga’s potential transfer away from the club is a smart play.
Of course, a buy-back clause would perhaps be even better, especially when you consider the fact that Chelsea are trying to re-sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace at this very moment in time.
