Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell is fast running out of time if he wants to find somewhere to play football in the second half of the season.
It’s been a frustrating campaign so far for Ben Chilwell at Chelsea, where he’s been frozen out of the side.
His only appearance this campaign was in the Carabao Cup back in September against Barrow. In terms of the Premier League and Conference League, he’s not featured in a single matchday squad.
Therefore, will the 28-year-old player be able to find himself a move in the remainder of the January transfer window?
Everton have prepared to discuss a loan move for Chelsea’s Chilwell, but they’ll need the Blues to recall Armando Broja from his loan first. Elsewhere, Graham Potter would like West Ham to sign Chilwell from Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel’s message to Ben Chilwell
According to GiveMeSport, England manager Thomas Tuchel has told Chelsea’s Chilwell that he’s still in his plans for the national side despite his lack of minutes this season.
The report explains that Chelsea are open to offers for the English left-back and the player’s keen for minutes.
It’s very surprising to hear that the defender is still in Tuchel’s England thoughts even without much football recently. We’re wondering if it’s a hint that he may look to play with a back three and wing-backs.
Tuchel’s officially started in his role as the England head coach, and he’ll pick his first-ever squad in March for a couple of World Cup qualifiers. Remarkably, it sounds like Chilwell’s inclusion isn’t completely out of the question.
What works in Chilwell’s favour is that the left-back spot has been a problem for England in recent years, especially due to Luke Shaw’s injury problems, so the forgotten Chelsea man could still have an international future ahead of him.
Chelsea made it a priority to find Chilwell a new club in the January window, but there’s not long left because it closes on 3 February.
Ben Chilwell’s record under Thomas Tuchel
When Tuchel was in charge at Chelsea between 2021-2022, he made history by winning the club their second Champions League trophy. In particular, his team’s success was built around a back three and quality wing-backs.
Chilwell was an important player for Tuchel’s Chelsea as the left wing-back, while Reece James did a similar job on the opposite flank.
Here is a look at how the attack-minded left-back performed under the German coach:
Appearances | Goals | Assists |
39 | 6 | 4 |
The fact that Tuchel has spoken to Chilwell about international football should come as a major boost for him. Surely he’s even more desperate to get out of Chelsea to go play football elsewhere in 2025.
Chilwell has 21 senior international caps for England, but he’s not represented his country since March 2024.
