Jason Cundy is adamant that Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca needs to make a big change to his starting line-up.
Even though the Chelsea squad includes plenty of strength in depth this season, Enzo Maresca does like to stick with the same core of players for the Premier League schedule.
A run of just one win in the last seven league games means the Blues are down to sixth in the division table, so question marks of the team are starting to come.
Frank Leboeuf was upset with Chelsea boss Maresca after losing to Manchester City because he didn’t agree with his tactics. It’ll be interesting to see how the team responds on Monday night when they host West Ham.

Jason Cundy urges Enzo Marsca to drop Chelsea player
According to Jason Cundy, the Chelsea manager needs to make the bold decision to drop Robert Sanchez from the starting line-up.
The 27-year-old gloveman is the first-choice goalkeeper for the Blues, starting the majority of the club’s Premier League games this season, but he’s under the spotlight because of numerous individual errors.
Cundy told talkSPORT: “Personally, I would take him (Sanchez) out of the firing line. I think the time has come because there is so much noise. Maresca is being asked pretty much every press conference, whether it be post-match or pre-match, he’s being asked about this. The errors are coming, and the errors are costly.”
Speaking earlier this month, Maresca insisted Chelsea keeper Sanchez is performing well. This was straight after an individual mistake in a victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Unfortunately, the statistics highlight that the first-choice Blues goalkeeper is costing his team far too much.
Here is a look at the players in the Premier League with the most errors leading to goal in the 2024/25 season so far:
Player | Club | Errors leading to goal |
Arijanet Muric | Ipswich Town | 5 |
Robert Sanchez | Chelsea | 5 |
Taylor Harwood-Bellis | Southampton | 4 |
Jan Bednarek | Southampton | 3 |
Andre Onana | Manchester United | 3 |
Ethan Pinnock | Brentford | 3 |
Bart Verbruggen | Brighton | 3 |

Jody Morris weighs in on Robert Sanchez situation
Jody Morris, the former Chelsea assistant manager, has delivered his verdict on Sanchez’s situation at Stamford Bridge. He thinks that the Spanish shot-stopper is capable of doing much better than he’s shown for the Blues.
Morris said via the talkSPORT video above: “It’s not the first time we’ve had this conversation about Sanchez. I don’t think it’ll be the last. The bottom line is when you’ve got the manager coming out and saying he’s going to stick with him until the end of the season, I kind of get that because he wants to be seen to be backing his players.
“Make no mistake about it, Robert Sanchez will know that he should be performing at a much higher level. He knows that level isn’t good enough to be a Chelsea goalkeeper at this moment. Now, is he capable of getting to a better level? I’d say yes. Has he proven it at Chelsea so far? I’d say no.”
Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to sign a new goalkeeper after Sanchez’s latest mistake in the weekend to defeat to Man City. His latest slip up was coming charging off his goal-line, which eventually led to Erling Haaland scoring with a simple chip over him.
It’s fair to say that Sanchez has had more than enough chances in-between the sticks, so we’d argue that understudy Filip Jorgensen deserves a run in the side during the second half of the campaign.
