Chelsea defender Renato Veiga’s ‘long-term future’ is up in the air as he is expected to join Juventus on loan in the coming days.
Veiga only completed a £12 million move to Stamford Bridge from Basel last summer so his imminent departure has surprised many.
The defender has played over 1,000 minutes in 18 appearances in all competitions this season and earned call-ups to the Portugal national team.
Evidently, the 21-year-old has several reasons to be pleased with his development in recent months but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Instead, Veiga was keen to exit the West London club this month in pursuit of more regular first-team football and to guarantee his place in Portugal’s squad.
One transfer expert has now weighed in on whether he is likely to stay at Chelsea once he returns from his spell in Turin.

Renato Veiga’s long-term Chelsea future assessed
Marc Cucurella is Chelsea’s first-choice left-back, while Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana (when available) are Enzo Maresca’s preferred centre-back partnership.
But that is not to say that the club – and the manager – do not rate Veiga highly and hope that he sticks around in West London.
It seems the youngster has other ideas, pushing to leave in this window, and now there are doubts over his ‘long-term future’.
“In terms of Veiga – I know Chelsea fans are saying it’s a shock. I must admit, if he plays any football in Turin, I’d be surprised if he comes back to Chelsea,” Graeme Bailey exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle.
“Let’s not beat around the bush, the player wanted to leave. The one hope Chelsea have got is that he becomes homesick for West London. Is that going to happen? I very much doubt it.
“They’re confident he’ll do well, and his value is only going to go up. But I don’t personally see a long-term future for Veiga at Chelsea.”
This is not the update Chelsea fans would have wanted, as Veiga had already endeared himself to them with some strong performances.

When Renato Veiga’s Juventus loan will be confirmed
Chelsea and Juventus agreed the terms of Veiga’s loan deal a few days ago. The Serie A club will play £4.2m (€5m) to take the defender for five months, with no option to buy.
However, the move has still not been announced by either club or the player’s representatives. That is going to change on Monday, January 27.
“Renato Veiga is on his way to Turin right now with his father Nelson ahead of Juventus move,” reports Fabrizio Romano. “Loan move from Chelsea will be signed on Monday, after medical tests.”
