Chelsea’s relationship with Strasbourg is working out really well for both parties.

BlueCo are owners of the two clubs and have been able to send young Chelsea players to Strasbourg on loan to aid their development.

The above includes Andrey Santos, who has helped the French side to climb all the way into sixth place in Ligue 1.

Currently, Strasbourg are just one point off the Champions League places, which is great for the club. But qualifying for the competition could cause Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali a bit of a headache.

Chelsea may be prohibited from doing transfer dealings with Strasbourg this summer

As well as Santos, Chelsea have also loaned Djordje Petrovic to Strasbourg, whose success could now see him return to Stamford Bridge.

Filip Jorgensen is being lined up as a replacement, but that deal will not happen if both Chelsea and Strasbourg are playing in the same European competition next season.

As per The Sun, UEFA regulations will prohibit Chelsea from doing any deals with Strasbourg this summer if the above happens.

It means there would be no chance of Santos or Petrovic remaining in France, though that looks unlikely anyway.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin does not seem to be completely against the idea of multi-club ownership, however.

He spoke about the subject in 2023 on The Overlap and said: “This multi-club ownership question is an interesting question. I think we should think about it for the future and see what to do.

“There is more and more interest for this multi-club ownership and we shouldn’t just say no to the investments, and for multi-club ownership. But we have to see what kind of rules we set in that case, because rules have to be strict.

“I think it has to be quick because, you know, everything has to happen quickly in football.”

Chelsea’s plans for Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic

Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, Santos is likely to remain at Chelsea next term.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Santos will be an option for Chelsea during the 2025/26 campaign.

As for Petrovic, he could also be about to get a chance with Enzo Maresca‘s first team. It has been claimed that Petrovic will have an opportunity to prove himself before the new season starts.

His and Santos’ time at Strasbourg, then, looks like it will becoming to an end very soon, and it could be down to multiple reasons.
