Chelsea could end up making a couple of big signings during this transfer window in a potential boost to Enzo Maresca.
Enzo Maresca looks like he could do with a new addition or two as Chelsea continue to drop points in the Premier League.
His side drew 2-2 with Bournemouth on Tuesday, meaning that they are now on a run of five games without a top-flight win.
Amid their poor run of form, Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. It has been claimed that Chelsea have already approached Delap’s agents twice as they look to bring him in this month.
Chelsea make another Liam Delap enquiry
Last month, journalist Simon Phillips reported that Chelsea had asked Ipswich Town about Delap’s availability.
According to Phillips, the Blues have done the same thing again this week and are currently trying to sign him.
On his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, he wrote: “SPTC sources have heard we have gone back to Ipswich again this week to ask about selling Liam Delap this month. Not sure on the response yet, but Chelsea are actively working on this one now.”
It is thought that Delap is not against a move to Chelsea, who may need to sign another forward if Christopher Nkunku departs for Bayern Munich.
Liam Delap a ‘different beast’
Delap gave Chelsea a taste of what he is capable of after battering their defence when they came to Portman Road at the end of last year.
The 21-year-old scored a penalty on the night and finished the game having won three out of four aerial duels. Tosin Adarabioyo and Levi Colwill could not live with him.
Delap was described as a “different beast” by manager Kieran McKenna after the game.
“There were so many outstanding individual performances in there, but Liam was fantastic. There is no doubt about that,” McKenna told the Ipswich Star and other outlets.
“I’ve been saying it to people around the club that he’s improving and he’s a different beast now to what he was in July.”
Again, while Delap could potentially arrive at Stamford Bridge this month, Nkunku could depart. It has been alleged that Nkunku’s personal terms with Bayern have already been sorted.
The Frenchman has been on the periphery at Chelsea this season, making just three starts in the Premier League.
