Chelsea could end up leaving their club legend and current Coventry City manager Frank Lampard feeling very disappointed this transfer window.
Due to the sheer size of their squad, Chelsea have a lot of players who are not playing regularly right now.
The above includes the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Renato Veiga and Marc Guiu. Veiga could now leave Chelsea amid interest from Borussia Dortmund.
Nevertheless, there are still a few fringe players whom Chelsea are unwilling to loan out this month as things stand.
Chelsea deny Frank Lampard’s request to take Marc Guiu on loan
This season, Guiu has only played twice in the Premier League. Most of his appearances so far have come in the Conference League.
Even so, it looks like Chelsea are reluctant to loan out the forward during this transfer window. According to journalist Simon Phillips, Lampard has asked about the availability of a few Chelsea players, including Guiu, but has been told by his former club that they are not currently on the market.
On his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, he wrote: “Marc Guiu is another player that Lampard has asked about, as well as Tyrique George. But the club have told Lampard that they would not sanction a loan move for either player until they see how the rest of the window pans out and what other players go etc.”
Ex-Chelsea defender Jason Cundy thinks Guiu is actually a better fit than Nkunku for the team.
What former Barcelona academy coach Albert Capellas has said about Marc Guiu
Chelsea signed Guiu from Barcelona last summer and they will be glad that they did. The 19-year-old has made a real impact in the Conference League this season, scoring six goals in as many appearances, and has a lot of potential.
Those with connections to Barcelona would have been disappointed to see Guiu leave, including former academy coach Albert Capellas.
He told Sky Sports last year: “Marc Guiu is a finisher. [He] is not a player who has unbelievable skills one against one, who can dribble past players. He is another type of player, but he is exceptional in his position. He has the nose to score goals.”
If Chelsea go on to sign another striker this month, it could pave the way for Guiu to leave temporarily. But from what he has shown this season, the young Spaniard is probably too good to be playing in the bottom half of the Championship.
One forward whom Chelsea could sign is Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. It is being reported that Delap is open to joining Chelsea this winter.
