With Chelsea already set to lose a first team defender in this transfer window, they could be about to add another name to that list.
After reports that Renato Veiga had agreed on a deal to leave, it has been claimed that Axel Disasi is also expected to leave this month.
Enzo Maresca is set to leave the Frenchman out of the matchday squad today for the Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.
The defender has been heavily out of favour in his preferred role this season, and has actually found most of his minutes come in the right-back position.
Enzo Maresca held meeting with Axel Disasi before deciding to drop him from Chelsea squad
He was named in the starting side against Morecambe in the FA Cup at the weekend. The League 2 club’s fans were keen to mock Disasi during that game.
Maresca is now keen on leaving him out of the squad tonight, with Fabrizio Romano saying this is a result of a meeting between the player and manager the day before the game.
He said: “Disasi spoke today with the manager, and my information is that tomorrow he could be out of the Chelsea squad and ready to leave the club in the January transfer window. So, let’s see what happens in terms of movements.
“There were links with Juventus, but I’m told in this moment that Chelsea have not received any approach from Juventus for Disasi. But I’m told in general that there is a strong possibility for him to go because Maresca could leave him out of the squad tomorrow.
“That’s the expectation because he’s expected to leave the club in the January transfer window.”
The Blues are likely to also drop Tosin Adarabioyo to the bench despite his two goals and clean sheet in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Who could Chelsea sign to replace Axel Disasi?
Chelsea’s reported top target for a new centre-back this month is Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
The Blues have told Guehi to push for a move away in January so they can negotiate easier with their Premier League rivals.
They are also intrigued by the idea of recalling Trevoh Chalobah on loan, although Palace boss Oliver Glasner has stated Chalobah is happy at his current club.
If they decide not to sign a big-name centre-back, there is the emergence of Josh Acheampong as a genuine option for Maresca to consider.
The youngster is expected to start alongside Levi Colwill at the back tonight Bournemouth.
