The Walking Dead: Dead City: Maggie Rhee fights army of undead unleashed in Madison Square Garden

Maggie Rhee fought for her life against an army of the dead unleashed by The Croat in Madison Square Garden on Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City.

Maggie [Lauren Cohan] had planned to escape in a New York City cab, but ran back into the arena to save mute Ginny [Mahina Napoleon]. Maggie grabbed Ginny on the stage of the Garden.

Suddenly, music blared through the arena’s audio system and Maggie, Ginny, Tommaso [Jonathan Higginbotham], and Amaia [Karina Ortiz], were stunned. 

The music drew in hordes of walkers who started banging on the outside doors. 

Explosions then blasted the doors off and thousands of walkers descended into the arena blocking every possible exit.

‘Tommaso!’ Amaia screamed when her lover was surrounded by walkers. ‘No! Tommaso!’

Maggie and the others fought off as many walkers as they could while outside The Croat [Željko Ivanek ] told two of his Burazi to search the area for Nega [Jeffrey Dean Morgan]. Maggie, Ginny and Amaia got inside the chain link cage that was set up in the middle of the stage and locked themselves in as they were surrounded by the horde of walkers.

The episode titled Everybody Wins A Prize opened with a flashback of Negan walking in and seeing how brutally The Croat had tortured a young woman to death. His right hand man Simon [Steven Ogg] was with him and told him that The Croat was a ‘nut job.’

‘I refused to participate in these childlike conversations,’ The Croat said.

‘There is a line we do not cross,’ Simon said.

‘We had to be sure,’ The Croat said.

Back in the present day, Amaia and the others were wondering what happened to their friend Luther. Maggie asked Negan if he was ready to capture The Croat and kill him and Negan said he was. Maggie, Negan, Amaia and Tommaso walked outside into the New York City streets and Maggie noticed that methane was bubbling up from the sewers. They went down into the subway and walked along tracks that were covered with the dead and made their way to Penn station.

Once they arrived, they immediately searched all the interrogation rooms for Hershel. When they didn’t find him, they made their final plan to kill The Croat.

‘You get your kid, we kill the psycho, everybody wins a prize,’ Amaia said. ‘Don’t screw it up.’

‘It’s going to work Maggie,’ Negan said. ‘We’re going to get your boy back.’

Maggie found Negan’s matches in her pocket and put them in his bag and then found a metal container of bee’s wax that he had been hiding.

‘I can explain,’ Negan said.

‘We don’t have time for this,’ Maggie said.

The Croat spoke to a boy in his control room about making him proud and that he should have no reason to ever be afraid of him.

He instructed the boy how to put a CD in the arena’s audio system to blast out music. 

The Croat then heard Negan whistling and ran out. The boy put the CD into a machine and pressed play and a timer started to count down.

‘Negan?’ The Croat called.

The Croat then saw Negan and chased him inside the stairwells of the Garden. By then, Maggie, Tommaso, Ginny and Amaia managed to escape the cage, killing walkers in their path and making their way into the stairwell of the arena.

‘Nothing to be afraid of,’ The Croat said. ‘You’re safe Negan. It’s only me.’

The Croat turned around and saw Negan pointing a weapon at him. The Croat told him to shoot but Negan just stood there. The Croat said he heard what happened at the bank.

‘You assumed I wanted revenge,’ The Croat said. ‘So you found common cause with your new friends. You blew off my ear! So what, I have another.’

The Croat told Negan that he heard about the war with The Hilltop.

‘I should have been there,’ The Croat said. ‘I can only imagine the damage Simon caused. He never listened.’

The Croat said he had built a new sanctuary.

‘I have built a new world,’ The Croat said. ‘The whole island will become our Sanctuary.’

He said he knew who Negan wanted.

‘Let me see him,’ Negan said.

The Croat then brought out Marshal Perlie Armstrong [Gaius Charles].

‘I am here for the kid,’ Negan said. ‘Hershel.’

‘Yes, that’s right the Marshal told me,’ The Croat said. ‘You’re still helping the widow. What did she promise you?’

The Croat told him that they needed to have a conversation. He said he would make a gesture to show that he only cares about their friendship. The Croat grabbed Perlie and threw him over the side. Negan went to help Perlie after managed to grab onto the railing hanging for his life. 

The Croat was shocked that Negan would want to help the man who wanted to kill him. The Croat shot Perlie in the leg but Negan was still able to pull the Marshall to safety.

As Maggie helped the others escape through the arena’s dangerous sewers system, Negan helped Perlie escape. 

They hid in a store, but when Negan turned his back, Perlie picked up his weapon and told him that he needed to punish him by execution.

‘You’re a dick,’ Negan said.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will return next Sunday on AMC.
