A tragic fire at an Islamic school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State, Nigeria, has led to the deaths of at least 17 children and left 16 others injured.
The incident took place late on Tuesday night, around 11:30 PM local time, while the students were asleep in their dormitory. The fire reportedly began in a nearby house and quickly spread to the school, burning for nearly three hours before it was brought under control.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as devastating, with one noting that over 100 students were present when the fire broke out. The bodies of the victims were said to be unrecognizable due to the severity of the flames.
Local officials, including Mannir Muazu Haidara, the executive chairman of Kaura-Namoda Local Government, have confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
He also mentioned plans to inspect other Islamic schools in the area to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Emergency services encountered difficulties reaching the site because of narrow roads, which hampered their response efforts.
This incident has caused profound grief in the community, with parents expressing their heartbreak over the loss of their children.
