A man drowned at a popular beach despite desperate attempts to save his life.
An unconscious man was pulled from the water at Scarborough Beach, a popular beach in Perth’s north, shortly after 2pm on Monday.
Lifeguards and bystanders attempted to perform CPR but he could not be revived.
Witness Sam Richel told 7NEWS rescuers spent a ‘really long’ time trying to save the man.
‘Then the white sheet came out. It was pretty scary,’ he said
Another beachgoer, Adryen Marchal, claimed several witnesses saw the man ‘floating’ in the water.
‘We saw something floating. We wanted to call the life savers but they already knew what was happening,’ he said.
‘Two of them took the rescue paddle to take the man out of the water and then they (brought) him back to the beach.
