The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to commence the construction of a new headquarters for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja. The facility will be located in the Maitama district, one of the capital’s highbrow areas.
Lere Olayinka, senior special assistant on public communications to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, confirmed the development, stating that President Bola Tinubu will officially flag off the project next week.
The move comes as part of a broader initiative by the FCTA to mark President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office with the inauguration of completed infrastructure projects and the commencement of new ones across the capital territory.
Among the major projects recently undertaken or nearing completion are the renovation of the Abuja International Conference Centre, new bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi, and key road networks such as the Apo-Wassa Road and the N16 interchange.
Also included are connecting roads from Maitama through Katampe to Jahi, the inner northern expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa road), CN8 road linking N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal, the N20 flyover on Kubwa Road, and the stretch from Life Camp junction to Ring Road III.
Additional infrastructure includes the Kabusa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti access roads, a new access road in Giri District, a 15-kilometre road linking A2 Junction on the Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council, and several road projects in Ushafa, War College, and the army checkpoint in Bwari Area Council.
