The Jigawa Police Command has confirmed the d3ath of a palace guard following an illegal horse riding procession in Gumel Local Government Area of the state.

Police sources said the incident occurred on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m., when a group of youths, including one Ibrahim Gwani and one Goni, both of Gumel town, and others now at large, organised an unauthorised horse riding event.

The procession, which did not receive official approval, reportedly caused panic in the area, prompting the Emir’s Palace to dispatch guards to disperse the participants.

“Tragically, one of the palace guards, Abdulhadi Mana (Kauran Dogorab Gumel) was knocked down by galloping horses during the attempt to restore order. He was immediately rushed to Gumel General Hospital for treatment, where he was confirmed d3ad,” the police said.

The police added that investigations were ongoing while efforts had been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects connected to the incident.

The command warned against holding public events without due authorisation to avoid breaches of peace and public safety.
