The Niger State Police Command has apprehended three suspects for vandalism and theft of electric cable in different locations in the state. 

 

Spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 said the suspects were arrested in Bosso and Munya Local Government Area.

 

“On 10th June, 2025 at about 11:50pm, Police operatives attached to Sarkin-Pawa, Munya LGA with vigilante members arrested two suspects, namely; Mohammed Isah 25yrs and Ishiaku Ali 30yrs, both of Kwagana village via Beni area of Sarkin-Pawa,” the statement read.

 

“The suspects were arrested by the team during a routine patrol along Beni/Sarkin-Pawa road, as they were found vandalising electric cable of over one hundred meters length with a white Lexus vehicle bearing Reg. No. RKD 84 AU. 

 

“The cable cutter was also recovered with the exhibits vandalised, they confessed that they planned to sell the cables to a buyer in Abuja. The suspects are under investigation as they have been transferred to SCID Minna for further information and prosecution.

 

“Similarly, on 12th June, 2025 at about 5pm, FUT Bosso campus security team arrested and took one Ibrahim Aliyu 24yrs of Angwan-Kanawa area of Bosso, to Bosso Div that on 11th June, 2025 around 7.30am, on reporting for duty, it was discovered that a suspect trespassed through the fence into the school premises, damaged the iron door protector of the generator room, and cut-off about sixteen metres of armoured cable connected to the generator valued about two million naira.

 

“Fortunately, on 12th June 2025 at about 2pm, while the suspect was making efforts to sell the cable, by searching for a buyer at Angwan-Masa Bosso, he was arrested through the community members and vigilante men with the exhibits. 

 

“During interrogation, he confessed that he perpetrated the act alone, peeled the armoured rubber part, concealed it in a sack and took it home. Investigation is ongoing and he will soon be charged to court for prosecution.”
