Despite already having Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen in their first-team squad, Chelsea are trying to sign AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.
Last month, it was claimed that Maignan is high on Chelsea’s shortlist, with the club clearly having some doubts about their current goalkeeper options.
It is now being widely reported that Chelsea have made their move for the 29-year-old, whose contract expires next summer.
Sanchez and Jorgensen had great ends to the season. The former helped the Blues qualify for the Champions League with strong performances against Nottingham Forest and Manchester United, while the latter was in goal for the team’s 4-1 victory over Real Betis in the Conference League final.
Mike Maignan interested in Chelsea move
It does not look like Chelsea are wasting their time pursuing Maignan. Again, his existing deal expires in 2026, making him attainable this summer, while the Frenchman seems to be more than open to a move.
According to BBC Sport, Maignan is interested in a switch to Chelsea in a massive boost for the Conference League winners.
That puts the futures of Sanchez and Jorgensen into serious doubt. Before the Maignan news broke, Sanchez’s position in Enzo Maresca‘s squad already appeared to be in danger.
It had been reported that there was a belief among some of Chelsea’s rivals that Sanchez could be sold.
If Maignan arrives, the chances of that happening will only increase, as Maresca will not be able to keep the France international, Sanchez and Jorgensen all happy.
Mike Maignan’s 2024/25 season stats
Maignan is a name that Chelsea supporters can get excited about. The Milan star is a high-profile goalkeeper who could be a perfect fit for Maresca.
His save percentage was not the highest in Serie A this season, but his passing stats were very good.
Mike Maignan’s 2024/25 Serie A stats | Total |
Games | 37 |
Goals against | 42 |
Clean sheets | 12 |
Goals against per 90 | 1.12 |

Sanchez has received criticism for his distribution, especially this term. It is one area Maignan should do better in at Chelsea if the Blues do go on to sign the former Lille man.
