Greek giants AEK Athens have reportedly set their sights on Nigerian forward, Cyriel Dessers as they look to strengthen their attacking line ahead of the summer transfer window.
Dessers, who joined Rangers from Italian side Cremonese in 2023 for €5 million, has been a consistent performer for the Scottish club.
The 30-year-old has racked up 28 goals and seven assists across all competitions this season, reaffirming his status as one of Rangers’ most reliable attacking outlets.
Over the past two seasons, Dessers has tallied an impressive 50 goals and 16 assists in 108 matches for the Gers.
Despite some criticism earlier in his Ibrox career, he has remained determined to prove his worth.
He notably turned down offers in the January transfer window, with reported interest from clubs in Italy and Spain, opting instead to stay and fight for his place.
Although Rangers ultimately finished the season without a trophy, Dessers’ personal contributions were significant, and his decision to stay arguably paid off.
However, with a potential change in ownership and a new manager likely to arrive in the summer, his future at the club has again come under scrutiny.
According to Scottish Sun Sport, AEK Athens have identified Dessers as their primary attacking target and are expected to table a bid soon.
The 13-time Greek champions are looking to bounce back after a disappointing season that saw them lose the domestic title to Olympiacos, crash out of the Greek Cup in the semifinals, and fail to reach the UEFA Conference League group stage.
Still under contract at Rangers until 2027, Dessers has publicly expressed his desire to win silverware in Glasgow.
Whether AEK’s interest will sway his decision remains to be seen, especially if bigger European clubs also enter the race.
