Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun has confirmed that his time at Rangers has come to an end, announcing he will not be offered a contract extension ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 36-year-old centre-back took to social media to deliver an emotional farewell message to fans, expressing gratitude.

Balogun returned to Rangers in July 2023 as a free agent, signing a short-term deal that was later extended.

He played a key role in the team’s Scottish League Cup victory in December 2023, where Rangers beat Aberdeen in the final.

While Balogun featured in the club’s last three home games of the season, he revealed he was unaware that they would be his final appearances in Rangers colours.

“It’s that time again,” Balogun wrote.

“No caption could summarise all that is going through my mind as I’m writing these lines. It’s been nothing short of an honour, a pleasure and a great, great privilege to represent this massive club twice!”

He continued, reflecting on the highs and lows of his time with the club:

“So many memories, good ones as well as a few tough ones, but it’s the latter especially that made my love for the club grow even stronger.

The moments when we all stuck together and went again, no matter the disappointment or frustration. In these moments, the club revealed what makes it most special: YOU.”

Regretful about not having a proper sendoff, he added:

“If I would have known that the last 2 games of the season were my last for the club I would have made sure to say goodbye to all of you accordingly.

“Unfortunately I wasn’t afforded that opportunity which saddens me as I would have liked to have walked round Ibrox one last time and returned all the love and support you’ve given me during my 2 stints.”

Balogun, who made 114 appearances, scored three goals, and provided four assists during his time at Rangers, concluded his message by calling the club “family” and promising to never be a stranger.

“I don’t know when I’ll be back, but I promise I won’t be a stranger.

“Thank you for making me feel at home and appreciated wherever we met. You’ve become more than just my club, you’ve become family, and for that I will be forever grateful.”

His European career has spanned clubs like Mainz, Werder Bremen, Brighton, and QPR, but his bond with Rangers clearly runs deep.
