Jordan Torunarigha has joined Hamburger SV as a free agent on a three-year deal, the player completed his move on Wednesday and was confirmed by the newly promoted Bundesliga club.

Torunarigha, 27, left KAA Gent as a free agent in favor of returning to Germany where he started his career.

In a club statement, Hamburger SV confirmed the Nigeria International joins as a key player ahead of the new season.

“We’ve been following his progress both on and off the pitch and are now pleased that he’s chosen to take the next step in his career with HSV,” according to HSV director football, Claus Costa.

The Nigeria International, who came through Hertha BSC’s academy and made his Bundesliga debut for the ‘Old Lady’.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the player expressed delight to be back in the League and what it took to get him there.

“I know the Bundesliga already and I’m really looking forward to returning to play in this special league once again, especially for a club with the tradition of HSV.”

“The people in charge made a great deal of effort to instill me with a positive feeling.’

“I aim to utilize all my strengths and experience to assist us in enjoying a successful season together, in which we achieve our goals.”

Torunarigha had offers from Lyon, Marseille, Anderlecht, and Borussia Mönchengladbach, per Florian Plettenberg.

Hamburg SV has been away from the Bundesliga for the past seven years, but they are no pushovers historically.

The club is one of the few German teams to have won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and the UEFA Champions League.

Meanwhile, the head coach Merlin Polzin will commence preseason games on July 6 against TSV Elstorf and VfB Oldenburg on July 7.
