The international friendly between Nigeria and Cameroon will now take place on Tuesday, June 3, at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, following CAF’s rejection of a proposed shift to Monday, June 2.

The NFF and FECAFOOT had earlier agreed to move the match forward by a day after the cancellation of the first leg, initially scheduled for Saturday, May 31, at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

However, CAF intervened, insisting the match hold on the originally approved date.

“Our friendly against Cameroon will now be held on Tuesday, June 3 at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, following a late request from FECAFOOT,” the Super Falcons announce via their official X handle.

Why the Confusion?

The fixture was originally intended to be a two-legged friendly, but the first leg was scrapped due to the late arrival of the Cameroonian delegation.

The visitors landed in Ikenne late Friday night, leaving insufficient time for pre-match protocols and adequate recovery, forcing the NFF to cancel the May 31 tie.

In response, both federations proposed moving the remaining fixture to Monday, June 2, but CAF declined to endorse the change, citing the official calendar and protocol requirements.

Preparations and Build-Up

The Cameroonian team is now camped in Ijebu Ode, where they’ve resumed full training in preparation for the encounter in nearby Abeokuta.

The Super Falcons, meanwhile, are intensifying final preparations for their first match since a narrow 1–0 defeat to France in a friendly held in November 2024.

The match serves as a key part of Nigeria’s build-up to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where the Super Falcons will chase a 12th continental title.

Although Cameroon failed to qualify for the tournament, they remain one of Nigeria’s fiercest continental rivals, having faced the Falcons in numerous high-stakes encounters.

Super Falcons vs Cameroon: Recent Context

Nigeria and Cameroon last met in the 2022 WAFCON quarterfinals, where the Falcons won 1–0.

The Super Falcons have won all 11 WAFCON titles contested in which both teams participated.

This friendly presents an opportunity for coach Justin Madugu to assess new call-ups and tactical setups ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
