The Chelsea manager is likely to be firmly involved in any talks regarding transfers that could take place at the club this summer.
Enzo Maresca has earned the right to have a say in the players who come into the club after achieving his goal of qualifying for next season’s Champions League in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
This has perhaps already been shown with the addition of Liam Delap. Maresca is a known fan of Delap from their time working together at Manchester City.
With plenty of names rumoured to come through the door this summer, the club are going to need to move on a number of first team players, with the top candidates being those who spent last season on loan at other clubs.
Champions League club considering signing Renato Veiga
One of those was Renato Veiga, who spent the second half of the campaign at Juventus after it became clear he was looking to play regular minutes at centre-back, rather than left-back.
The Serie A side are not the only club interested in his services. According to journalist Marc Mechenoua, Marseille are considering making a move for the Portugal international.
He said: “In search of a left-footed central defender, OM is considering Renato Veiga! The Marseille club has made inquiries to find out the situation of the defender, who was loaned by Chelsea to Juventus during the second half of the season.”
Veiga starred during his time at Juventus, however talk of a permanent deal with the Serie A side has gone quiet.
Chelsea risk angering Maresca over Veiga deal
After making his exit in January, the club were left with just one senior option at left-back in the form of Marc Cucurella.
It has been reported that Maresca is ‘crazy’ about Veiga, and was only open to him leaving because there was no buy option included in the loan deal.
The Italian was full of praise for the defender whenever he featured at Stamford Bridge, and it can be believed he is keen to have him back in his plans for next season.
The Blues will risk angering their head coach if they cash in on him, with him certainly having the capabilities to provide competition for Levi Colwill.
