Tyrique George is a popular figure with Chelsea supporters after his first-team breakthrough this season, but we suspect his latest comments about his future will worry them quite a bit.
Tyrique George, who’s gone from the Chelsea academy to the senior squad this season, is growing in stature as a part of Enzo Maresca’s group.
He’s started to pick up regular minutes this campaign, even though he’s competing with some high-profile attackers for action.
Appearances | Goals | Assists |

Nicolas Jackson’s red card against Newcastle United in Sunday’s defeat means he’s unavailable for the final two Premier League games of the season, which have so much riding on them, as the race for Champions League qualification is going down to the wire.
Earlier in the season, George stepped up to play as the central striker despite being a winger by trade. It’ll be interesting to see if the 19-year-old academy graduate is called upon in the next two matches.
Tyrique George admits he wants as many minutes as possible
Chelsea talent George has admitted his target in the future is to play as much as possible, whether that’s at Chelsea or at a different club.
When asked for his short-term and long-term goals in football, George said on the Rising Ballers YouTube channel: “I’d say long-term just to carry on playing as many games as possible, if that’s with Chelsea or somewhere else. I’m just really happy to keep playing games and getting experience as well.”
It’s interesting to hear George’s elite mindset that he’s determined to play now at the highest level. However, it may set the alarm bells ringing with the fanbase that the youngster admitted he’s willing to go anywhere to get regular minutes.
Even though he’s now a full member of the first-team group, he’s definitely still behind the likes of Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho in the wide positions. When it comes to the 2025/26 season, George’s competition for a starting role could become even tougher when Estevao Willian arrives as well.
There’s nothing to suggest George is thinking of leaving his boyhood club, and perhaps we’re reading too much into his comments. It’s worth adding he’s a youngster still getting used to the media and scrutiny that comes with playing for Chelsea, too.
It doesn’t sound great that he’s prepared to go anywhere to play, though.
The likes of Tino Livramento, Marc Guehi and Lewis Hall are shining examples of what can happen after leaving Chelsea.
Joe Shields has massively supported Tyrique George with his rise from the youth team into the main group. Hopefully, he can convince him the best place for his development is to stay at Chelsea, where the opportunities will come in Maresca’s team.
Josh Acheampong wants to be a Chelsea legend
In contrast, Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong, 19, gave a very different response when asked about his future during the same interview as above.
When asked for his short-term and long-term goals in football, Acheampong told Rising Ballers: “I think short-term goals to end the season strong. Hopefully we can get to the Champions League, and then we’ve got the Club World Cup as well. Also to win the Conference League. I say my long-term goals are to be a Chelsea legend. An inspiration for the younger players.”
Acheampong certainly sounds determined to become a success at Chelsea, and we really like what we’ve seen of the versatile defender since his promotion into the senior squad midway through this season.
Benoit Badiashile’s prediction on Josh Acheampong is that he can become a “top, top player” in the future.
Unfortunately, Acheampong’s response does make George’s comments seem even stranger. We’re hopeful that both will stay at Chelsea for a long time, but we’ve got some doubts now about the latter.
