Although Chelsea tried to strengthen in the goalkeeper position before the Club World Cup, it is not an area where they are lacking numbers.
Chelsea attempted to bring in Mike Maignan from AC Milan despite already having Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders.
With four not going into one, there will be exits in the goalkeeper department this summer. And the above names are not the only shot-stoppers still on the Blues’ books.
Chelsea also possess Luke Campbell and Gabriel Slonina, who are not part of the first team.
Crystal Palace hold talks with Luke Campbell
Chelsea have confirmed through their official website that Campbell has not been retained, so they will not actually have him for much longer.
The 19-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the month, meaning that he can join another club for free. And Crystal Palace look like a potential destination for him.
According to the Daily Mirror, Palace have held talks with Campbell about a potential move to south London this summer.
The English youngster will depart Cobham without having played a single game for Chelsea’s first team.
With the options that they already have and speculation that another shot-stopper could be signed, Campbell joining another club will be good for his development.
It is thought that Chelsea are being offered other goalkeepers by agents following their failed pursuit of Maignan.
Luke Campbell not the only goalkeeper set to leave Chelsea
Another goalkeeper who is on his way out of Chelsea is Petrovic. The 25-year-old was excellent at Strasbourg last season, but he does not want to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.
Petrovic demanded to be made No.1, but with Chelsea unwilling to offer him any guarantees, an exit is now the most likely outcome.
The Serbia international is not even with the Blues’ Club World Cup squad, suggesting that his short spell in west London is over. Petrovic joined Chelsea from New England Revolution in 2023.
