Chelsea are currently in transfer discussions as they attempt to sign a forward who’s previously been compared to Kylian Mbappe.
The Blues are linked with several different forwards ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, so supporters are anxiously waiting to find out who will arrive at Stamford Bridge next season.
Chelsea will prioritise signing a new striker this summer as they look to find extra competition for Nicolas Jackson in the No 9 position.
Ally McCoist is disappointed by Nicolas Jackson’s progression because he wanted to see him kick on more this season. Instead, he’s scored 12 goals in 33 games across all competitions this campaign.
Chelsea in talks to sign Hugo Ekitike
According to RMC Sport, Chelsea are one of the clubs keen on signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike this summer.
It is explained Bundesliga club Frankfurt have given the green light for the 22-year-old to leave if their mutual interests are respected. Apparently, the German side value him between €80m (£67m) and €100m (£84m).
The report claims that Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are among the clubs to approach Frankfurt and Ekitike. In particular, the Blues’ interest is considered to be quite high.
RMC Sport adds that Chelsea are one of the interested suitors that are already in transfer negotiations about a potential deal.
If Enzo Maresca’s side can beat the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal to Ekitike’s signature, it could be a significant moment this summer. It’s no real surprise that the French youngster is in demand after a superb individual campaign.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Bundesliga | 33 | 15 | 8 |
Europa League | 12 | 4 | 3 |
DFB Cup | 3 | 3 | 1 |
Chelsea scouted Hugo Ekitike in Frankfurt’s recent 3-1 away victory against Freiburg in the Bundesliga because he’s one of their striker targets.
Even though Chelsea failed with January attempts to sign Hugo Ekitike, it now sounds like he’s ready to leave Frankfurt if the right opportunity presents itself.
Hugo Ekitike has been compared to Kylian Mbappe
Back in March, legendary midfielder Wesley Sneijder raved about the individual quality of Chelsea target Ekitike.
In fact, he compared the French centre-forward to Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe because of his pace. On top of that, he compared him to Santos and Brazilian icon Neymar.
When discussing Ekitike, Sneijder told Voetbalzone: “I think he’s a mix between Neymar and Mbappe. I mean that sincerely. He gets that grace from Neymar, but also the movements of Mbappé. Suddenly accelerating, that’s something Mbappe also has. And he’s only 22 years old. There’s really a lot of potential in this boy.”
We definitely like Ekitike as a transfer option for the Blues because he’s a tidy finisher, netting 22 goals across all competitions. His profile as a young talent with huge potential suits Chelsea’s transfer strategy, too.
