Chelsea look as if they are pushing to add some much-needed experience to their first team after overachieving with the youngest Premier League team of all time.

The Blues have been strongly linked to the signing of Mike Maignan after weighing up a deal to sign him for the previous few transfer windows.

There has been criticism fired at both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen whenever they have been between the sticks at Stamford Bridge this season, with neither making the role their own over the last 12 months.

It has been reported that Enzo Maresca wants a new goalkeeper to go into the new season with, and after delivering a trophy and a return to Champions League football it is believed he will be backed by those on the board.

Chelsea handed Mike Maignan boost as AC Milan eye replacement goalkeeper

The addition of Maignan would certainly be a sign of this being the case, with him establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe throughout his numerous seasons at AC Milan.

Now, the Blues have been handed a boost in their efforts as a report from AlfredoPedulla has stated that the Serie A side are already looking at replacements, should the Frenchman leave the club.

The report goes on to say that they are targeting Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to replace Maignan, with him previously being mentioned as a player of interest at Stamford Bridge.

It was even claimed that Maresca had handpicked Milinkovic-Savic as a potential signing, however little has been heard about that in recent weeks.

Maignan’s big advantage over Robert Sanchez

Despite a tough season, Chelsea fans were impressed by Sanchez in the final few weeks of the campaign. He provided a number of big performances in the run in.

However, it would be hard to argue that the signing of the France international would not significantly upgrade Chelsea’s starting side, especially in one area where Maresca demands it.

Maignan is a far better passer than Sanchez, and with the manager’s intention to build up from the back having the best possible option here is desirable.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea get this one over the line, however it would be a serious step in the right direction to add Maignan to their ranks.
