Chelsea and Tottenham have both been linked with the same player in recent months, but it’s the Blues who are looking to steal a march to get him.

The focus at Chelsea right now is on a strong end to the season because they’re still fighting for Champions League qualification and the Conference League trophy. Afterwards, they’ll be competing in the Club World Cup this summer as well.

However, fans may already be interested to see if another busy transfer window is around the corner under the current Blues ownership.

Chelsea could spend big this summer on the likes of a goalkeeper, centre-back and striker.

The latest reports suggest that Enzo Maresca’s side are already looking to beat the likes Spurs to one transfer target.

Feyenoord defender David Hancko, 27, has been a popular name in the transfer rumour mill during recent months.

First of all, Chelsea enquired about Hancko in January but were told he wouldn’t be leaving mid-season.

It was then claimed in March that Chelsea and Spurs stepped up interest in Hancko. Apparently, the left-footed centre-back is also wanted by Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

The latest rumours in April suggest that the Blues could be pushing hardest to sign the Slovakia international.

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea have made ‘fresh contact’ with Feyenoord over a move for Hancko.

It is understood that Liverpool are the latest potential suitor for the 27-year-old ace, but Chelsea are the ‘most advanced with their interest after another approach.

The report claims that Dutch giants Feyenoord have been resigned to losing Hancko, and they want clubs to match their €50m (£43m) price tag. However, interested teams believe that they could negotiate a lower transfer fee, especially if they’re patient and wait until later in the summer window.

David Hancko reaching his prime years

Unlike many Chelsea signings in recent transfer windows, Hancko is a transfer target who’s approaching his very best. It’s certainly no surprise that he’s tipped to make a high-profile transfer this summer.

The experienced centre-half is having a very impressive individual season for a Feyenoord side sitting third in the Eredivisie league table.

In the statistics above, the real eye-catching one is that he’s only been dribbled past five times all campaign.

Of course, it would be a different standard if Hancko comes to Chelsea and plays in the Premier League for the first time in his career. However, he could be the type of ready-made profile needed to help a young Blues backline.
