Chelsea are battling with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City this summer to sign a highly-rated young right-back.

On paper, the right-back position is one area of the Chelsea squad where they look quite strong already. The likes of Reece James, Malo Gusto and Josh Acheampong can play in the role.

However, there are now some links about the Blues looking to strengthen the full-back spot. For example, it was previously reported that Chelsea are interested in signing Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina, who’s a talented 28-year-old defender that once came out of the academy at Cobham.

Now, Enzo Maresca’s side could fight to sign an individual Liverpool are looking at to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold. Incidentally, there’s still been no official confirmation about Alexander-Arnold’s future, even though the widespread speculation points to him leaving Anfield at the end of the season.

According to CaughtOffside, Wesley from Brazilian club Flamengo is a player in demand going into the summer.

It is explained that Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Barcelona admire the attack-minded right-back.

The report explains that the Blues have made ‘initial contact’ with Wesley’s representatives to signal their interest. Similarly, Liverpool have been monitoring the 21year-old youngster for over a year as he’s viewed as a potential replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

CaughtOffside adds that Chelsea are willing to offer around €20m (£17m) for the Brazilian right-back, but Flamengo will hold out for closer to €30m-35m (£25m-£30m).

Let’s wait and see if Wesley joins the likes of Andrey Santos and Estevao Willian as Brazilian youngsters to sign for Chelsea. In a recent interview, Andrey Santos said he’s excited to play with Estevao Willian at Chelsea and shine alongside his fellow countryman.

Who is Flamengo star Wesley?

Even though he might not be familiar to English audiences, Wesley is an emerging star tracked by some of Europe’s giant clubs.

Back in March 2025, the 21-year-old right-back was called up to Brazil’s senior squad for the first time, earning his first two caps as well in World Cup qualifiers.

Wesley does already have a lot first-team football under his belt, making 125 senior appearances for Flamengo since his breakthrough.

On paper, he’s definitely the sort of profile that matches what Chelsea look for in their transfer targets. We’d be a little mystified to see them go after another right-back this summer, though.
