Chelsea are in danger of missing out on their summer transfer target amid rival interest from the likes of Tottenham and Newcastle United.

The immediate focus at Chelsea right now is a strong end to the season because they’re still fighting for Champions League qualification and the Conference League trophy. On top of that, Enzo Maresca’s side are involved in the Club World Cup tournament this summer.

It’s natural that Blues fans may already be thinking about what the club could do in the summer transfer window to strengthen.

Chelsea are eyeing several different strikers in the market as they look to improve their forward line. Also, they’ve been linked with numerous different centre-halves to bolster the defence.

Chelsea target Marc Guehi is a man in demand

Crystal Palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi, 24, has been heavily linked with a potential return to Stamford Bridge after coming through the Chelsea academy as a youngster.

Previous reports claimed that Chelsea are confident of re-signing Marc Guehi when the summer transfer window comes around.

Now, TEAMtalk claims that Chelsea have been leapfrogged in the transfer race for Guehi.

It is understood that Newcastle have jumped the queue in the race to sign the 24-year-old central defender this summer. Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are both ready to pounce with their own moves, too.

The report explains that Chelsea have been targeting the Palace captain, who’s valued at £46m, but there has been no advancement in any deal. Meanwhile, Newcastle have pressed ahead with some concrete action.

If the Blues miss out on Guehi’s signature, especially to London rivals Spurs, it would feel like a massive blow.

Manchester City could join the race for Marc Guehi this summer, which highlights just how well he’s done at Selhurst Park.

The centre-back is set to lead his Palace team out at Wembley Stadium this weekend to face Man City in the FA Cup final. Afterwards, will he be involved in a big-money transfer this summer?

Marc Guehi vs Levi Colwill

Chelsea have used a number of different options at centre-back throughout the season, but Levi Colwill, 22, has emerged as the first-choice defender under Maresca.

It’s interesting to compare how Guehi and Colwill have performed in the Premier League this term.

Player Club Appearances Goals Own goals Pass completion Tackles won Interceptions Errors
Marc Guehi Crystal Palace 34 3 3 83.5% 34 28 2
Levi Colwill Chelsea 33 1 0 89.5% 32 32 4

In theory, we could imagine the two England internationals forming a solid partnership in the Blues defence. It sounds like Chelsea need to get a move on if they really want the Palace star, though.
