Chelsea’s transfer attention will now turn to another position after securing a deal to sign Liam Delap.

Even though fans are still waiting for official confirmation that Chelsea have wrapped up a deal to sign Liam Delap, there’s widespread speculation that suggests the Ipswich Town striker is on his way to Stamford Bridge.

It’s been reported that Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Delap, and the centre-forward’s £30m release clause will now be triggered. Apparently, the 22-year-old has opted to join the Blues because of Champions League football and to reunite with Enzo Maresca, who coached him in Manchester City’s academy.

Chelsea believe that Delap can emulate Cole Palmer by developing into a real star with them. The English striker will hope to build on 12 Premier League goals this season for a poor Ipswich side that suffered relegation.

Chelsea will prioritise a new winger after Liam Delap deal

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea will now prioritise a move to sign a new winger after securing Delap.

Apparently, the Blues are looking for a right-footed winger to cut infield from the left flank. This will be their next focus in the transfer market from now until the Club World Cup kicks off in mid-June.

Jacobs said on The Football Terrace: “Delap is the one they wanted. He was the number one choice. And as I revealed two days ago, Chelsea agreed terms and now have triggered the £30m release clause… So that one is done… After Delap, the top priority next for Chelsea is to find a right-footed left winger, and that will be what I expect them to work on between now and when the Club World Cup starts.”

Chelsea’s transfer focus this summer centres around signing a new striker, a new winger, a new left-sided defender and a new goalkeeper. With Delap seemingly in the bag, the attention turns to a right-footed wide man.

Perhaps it’s no major surprise that the Blues are aiming to strengthen their options in the final third.

Chelsea scored 64 goals in the 38-game Premier League season, with six other teams netting more than that.

The talented wingers already linked with Chelsea

In fairness, there are a few left-wingers linked with a possible move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

It’s been claimed this week that Chelsea have contacted Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams as they discuss a potential transfer. Without a doubt, the 22-year-old Spanish attacker would inject some real speed, quality and excitement into the Blues XI.

Elsewhere, Chelsea are linked with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and would look to use the 23-year-old England international on the left wing if he joined.

Of course, Jadon Sancho, 25, is another alternative for the Blues. He’s just had a decent year on loan with Chelsea from Manchester United, scoring in the Conference League final victory this week. Sky Sports claims that Chelsea are currently in discussions about signing the Man Utd loanee on a permanent basis.
