Rangers striker, Cyriel Dessers has officially clinched the 2024–2025 Scottish Premiership Golden Boot after finishing the season as the league’s top scorer.
The Nigerian forward sealed the honour on the final matchday after his closest challenger, Simon Murray of Dundee, failed to score.
Dessers found the net in Rangers’ 2-2 draw away to Hibernian on Saturday, registering his 18th league goal of the season.
His early strike in the second minute not only gave Rangers an initial lead but also proved decisive in the Golden Boot race.
The goal put him two clear of Murray and Celtic’s Daizen Maeda, who both ended the campaign with 16 goals each.
Murray had one final chance to overtake the Nigerian but was unable to find the net during Dundee’s 2-0 win over St. Johnstone on Sunday, confirming Dessers as the outright winner.
The 30-year-old striker was in brilliant form during the closing stages of the season, scoring in five consecutive Premiership matches.
His consistency and goal-scoring instinct were instrumental in keeping Rangers competitive throughout the campaign.
This marks the third major Golden Boot of Dessers’ career. He previously finished as top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie with Heracles Almelo in the 2019–2020 season and led the scoring charts in the 2021–2022 UEFA Conference League with 10 goals.
Dessers succeeds Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland as the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer and becomes the first Rangers player to win the award since Alfredo Morelos.
He is also the first Rangers striker to score in five straight games since Morelos, with James Tavernier being the only other player at the club to achieve such a streak more recently.
Across all competitions this season, Dessers has scored 29 goals and registered 7 assists in 55 appearances, a career-best tally that underlines his attacking quality.
With Rangers set to appoint a new permanent manager this summer, Dessers’ form will no doubt make him a vital piece in the club’s plans moving forward.
