Cyriel Dessers continued his fine form in front of goal with a brace as Rangers sealed a 3-1 win over Dundee United at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

The Nigerian striker, who has now scored in four consecutive league games, opened the scoring for Barry Ferguson’s side in the 25th minute, just five minutes after Dundee United had taken the lead through Samuel Cleall-Harding.

Dessers brought Rangers level by connecting perfectly with a cross from Jefte, directing a powerful header into the top-right corner.

His second of the night came in the 73rd minute, when he calmly dispatched a penalty to put Rangers ahead. Just two minutes later, Nico Raskin added a third goal to seal all three points for the hosts.

The 30-year-old forward, who played the entire 90 minutes, has now scored 17 league goals this season, placing him at the top of the Scottish Premiership scoring chart, one goal ahead of Celtic’s Daizen Maeda and Dundee’s Simon Murray.

The game also saw fellow Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun feature for the full duration as Rangers claimed their fifth win in six meetings with Dundee United.

Dessers’ double brought his tally for Rangers to 50 goals since joining the club.

Across all competitions this season, he has registered 28 goals and 7 assists, a significant return for a player who was the subject of transfer speculation during the winter window.

Despite links to clubs in Italy and Spain, he chose to remain in Glasgow and has since silenced critics with consistent performances.

While some had doubted his capabilities earlier in the campaign, the former Feyenoord and Genk striker has turned his form around just in time for the season run-in.

With the summer transfer window looming, Dessers’ future remains uncertain.

However, he’ll be focused on maintaining his rich vein of form and possibly earning a recall to the Nigerian national team ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
