Gabriel Agbonlahor tells Chelsea to sign £62m player who’s ‘better’ than Nicolas Jackson

Gabriel Agbonlahor has named the centre-forward he thinks Chelsea should sign this summer.

Nicolas Jackson, 23, has been the first-choice striker at Chelsea for two consecutive seasons.

Despite plenty of potential and quality in Jackson’s game, he struggles to fill the role as a prolific No 9.

Chelsea’s plan for the summer transfer window includes a significant investment to bring a new forward to Stamford Bridge.

Even though Chelsea retain high hopes for Nicolas Jackson, they’re prioritising a new signing at the top end of the pitch to help strengthen the squad for next season.

Gabriel Agbonlahor urges Chelsea to sign Victor Osimhen

According to talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor, Chelsea should buy Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer because he thinks it would be a perfect fit.

Incidentally, he’s confident that the 26-year-old centre-forward would be a real upgrade on Jackson.

Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “I think Osimhen is a Chelsea player. He’s a better option than Nicolas Jackson, a better finisher. He’s outstanding in the air and can hold the ball up and get in behind as well. Surely that’s a no-brainer to go and get.”

In the 2024/25 season, Osimhen has been in sensational form in Turkey during a season-long loan at Galatasaray. He’s scored 35 goals in 38 games across all competitions for them.

It’s been reported that Napoli are ‘almost guaranteed’ to sell Victor Osimhen at the end of the season. In addition, the striker is keen on a move to Chelsea, but the Blues are trying to find an agreement to pay his wages.

Claude Makelele wants Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea because he’s convinced he would suit them perfectly.

The fact that Victor Osimhen has a £62m release clause this summer should make him an attractive option for all the top sides in Europe after a goalscorer.

Victor Osimhen a clear upgrade on Nicolas Jackson

Like Agbonlahor mentions, Osimhen would be an obvious upgrade on Jackson for the striker position.

If Chelsea can work out the financial aspects for a transfer, they should go all out to buy the Nigeria international from Napoli in this next transfer window.

In terms of experience, Jackson is still quite a bit behind Osimhen as a player. He could definitely benefit so much from shadowing him for the next couple of years.

Osimhen would be the kind of statement signing ahead of next season that would put rival clubs on red alert of the Chelsea project.
