Chelsea have been at the heart of transfer speculation across the summer window so far, and the latest speculation has riled up the Blues fanbase.

Even though Chelsea have travelled to the Club World Cup with a deep squad, they’ve left behind so many individuals that spent the 2024/25 season out on loan.

Chelsea could sell up to 10 first-team players this summer to trim down the numbers. In fairness, there are some big names on big wages that make sense to move on, but several academy graduates are linked with possible exits.

Alfie Gilchrist expected to be sold

Reports on Tuesday claimed that Gilchrist will leave Chelsea on a permanent deal in this summer transfer window. Apparently, several options are being considered amid interest from multiple Championship clubs.

The 21-year-old defender, who’s about to enter the final year of his Chelsea contract, looks set to be sold for pure profit.

Gilchrist spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan with Sheffield United, where he narrowly missed out on promotion by losing in the Championship play-off final. If reports are true, he’s about to return to the second tier next season.

Gilchrist, who can play at centre-half or right-back, has played 17 first-team games in Chelsea colours after a promotion from the academy. However, he may soon join a long line of Cobham products to be sold.

Blues legend John Terry once said Gilchrist reminds him of himself, but it looks like he’ll carve out a senior career away from Chelsea.

Chelsea fans fuming that they are set to sanction Alfie Gilchrist sale

Chelsea supporters on social media can’t quite believe the speculation that Gilchrist is heading for the exit doors.

Here are Blues fans on X raging at the transfer development:

One fan wrote: “Alfie Gilchrist is extremely talented. We will regret it.”

“That’s just madness on CFC’s part. The boy bleeds blue,” another posted.

One supporter claimed: “Disgrace to sell Alfie.”

“We thought he was going to be out next John Terry,” another said.

It may be a small crumb of comfort for Gilchrist to see the unhappiness within the Chelsea fanbase about the news. In terms of his own career, we think he would be an excellent pick up for pretty much every club in the Championship.
