Chelsea are set to bring in at least one new winger before the transfer window closes, with the Conference League winners currently light in that position.

Following Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United, Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto and Tyrique George are now the only natural wingers in Enzo Maresca‘s squad.

For the Italian, that is simply not enough. When Maresca spoke about his lack of wide men earlier this week, he said: “We have Noni, Pedro and Ty only as the proper wingers so something for sure is going to happen. When the transfer window is open, for sure, we can do something.”

Chelsea could now ramp up their attempts to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens to help solve the problem.

Jamie Gittens only wants to join Chelsea

Chelsea wanted Gittens in the last transfer window but failed to agree a deal with Dortmund, resulting in the 20-year-old remaining with Niko Kovac’s squad for the time being.

Arsenal have also been linked with Gittens, but if Chelsea and Dortmund can settle on a fee, it looks like the Englishman will be heading to Stamford Bridge.

According to Fabrizio Romano, who recently gave an update on Gittens’ situation on X, the player is only considering Chelsea and the Blues remain in talks with Dortmund over a deal.

It is positive news for Maresca, but the Chelsea manager will have to make do with just Madueke, Neto and George at the Club World Cup.

Gittens is not the only winger who is of interest to the Blues. It has been reported that Chelsea have also enquired about signing Malick Fofana.

What Borussia Dortmund’s chief executive for sport has said about Jamie Gittens

Dortmund want big money for Gittens, which is hardly a surprise. The England Under-21 international is a young player with a lot of talent so is valued highly by the club.

Borussia Dortmund’s chief executive for sport, Lars Ricken, hailed his ability to make a difference in games in an interview with The Athletic last year.

“He has developed into a real difference maker with his goals and assists,” Ricken said after one match.

Even so, the Bundesliga outfit still look willing to sell Gittens. Chelsea just have to pay up and probably will given their winger situation.
