Edo Queens head coach, Moses Aduku has said he is disappointed over his team’s inability to retain their NWFL Premiership title during the recently concluded Super 6 in Yenagoa.
Speaking in the aftermath of their campaign, Aduku admitted that his side had a slow start but insisted that such setbacks are part of football.
“It’s unfortunate we could not get what we wanted in the Super 6, but that’s football sometimes,” he said.
Despite the underwhelming finish, the experienced coach is already shifting focus to the next target — the semi-final of the Women’s Federation Cup, where Edo Queens are set to face Nasarawa Amazons.
“We’re going now to see how we can play and win the game against Nasarawa in the semi-final,” Aduku stated.
“Tournaments are of different types.”
Speaking on his team’s slow start to the NWFL Super 6, Aduku drew parallels with Côte d’Ivoire’s remarkable comeback at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
“Sometimes you start late, sometimes you start early and end badly. But the important thing is that we try all we could to see how we can win all our games. But unfortunately our starting was not too good.”
“Football is like that. If you look back to the last Nations Cup, it was like that, but Côte d’Ivoire came back to win. But it’s unfortunate that we could not complete the assignment by getting the trophy.”
Edo Queens, who went into the Super 6 as defending champions, will now be hoping to redeem their season by lifting the FA Cup.
Their semi-final clash against Nasarawa Amazons promises will be a contested encounter as both sides chase silverware.
