Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing a new striker this summer after it has become clear they cannot rely on Nicolas Jackson to fire them towards a Premier League title race.
The Senegal international is suspended for the crucial final game of the season, meaning Enzo Maresca is sweating on the fitness of Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu ahead of Sunday.
The Blues have been let down with a lot of their chances created going wasted. A large portion of those have been made by Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez.
The World Cup winner has increased his numbers drastically since the appointment of Maresca, which has included chipping in with some important goals against the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham.
Enzo Fernandez names his dream Chelsea transfer target
With the Blues needing firepower, Fernandez was asked in an interview which of his international teammates he would most like Chelsea to sign this summer.
The midfielder told Gaston Edul that he would love to see former Manchester City star Julian Alvarez join the club.
He said: “Julian. I talk to Julián often, even more so now. We’ve shared youth teams, the reserve team, the national team, River Plate…” There is no longer any discussion about what a great player he is, and he has proven it with his goals.”
The duo have combined well on the international stage, both being part of the side who won the 2022 World Cup.
Why Chelsea didn’t sign Alvarez last summer
Alvarez was on the move at the end of last season after it became clear that he was going to become second fiddle to Erling Haaland at the Etihad.
While Chelsea were credited with interest in signing him, he went on to join Atletico Madrid, where he has scored 29 goals in all competitions this season.
The Blues reportedly thought Alvarez was too expensive at the time, and he would likely not be any cheaper if they were to move for him this summer.
Ironically, it has been reported recently that Atletico players have tried to convince Fernandez to join them, with them having a strong Argentine contingent there.
