Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca deserves for his opinions on the first team squad to be listened to by the board following his excellent first campaign with the club.

The Blues won their first trophy since Todd Boehly’s reign at Stamford Bridge began via the Conference League, and will be returning to the Champions League next season as a result of a top four finish.

Maresca will be well aware that the club need to strengthen in a number of positions in order to move to the next level of their project.

One area he is keen to address is the goalkeeper role, with the Italian pushing hard for the signing of Mike Maignan from AC Milan.

Filip Jorgensen told he isn’t in Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea plans

The Frenchman didn’t join before the first deadline, and instead the Blues will have to choose from Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen to start in goal for their opening fixture against LAFC.

Given his regularity in the Premier League, the Spaniard is likely to get the nod, meaning Jorgensen will be forced to deputise.

However, The Chelsea Chronicle understands that the Denmark international is not keen on playing second fiddle for another campaign at Stamford Bridge.

According to transfer insider Graeme Bailey, Jorgensen could be set to move on loan this summer in order to get regular football next season.

He said: “Filip Jorgensen has been told he’s not going to be number one. He doesn’t want to be number two, by the way, which may see him leave. Filip Jorgensen, I’m told, does not want to be number two. He may be then loaned to Strasbourg.”

Jorgensen joined Chelsea for £21m, however has failed to make himself a regular outside of cup competitions.

Chelsea’s bizarre goalkeeper situation

While the Blues may return to try and sign Maignan later this summer, there is a lot of uncertainty regarding their current goalkeeping situation.

Maresca has lost faith in Sanchez despite his strong end to the campaign, and he would be happy to replace him this summer.

However, the club have also told Djordje Petrovic he can leave this summer, with them expecting to make some profit on him following his addition.

This just leaves Mike Penders from their current crop of goalkeepers, and while the future is very bright for him it feels too soon for him to be handed the gloves at a club like Chelsea.
